TOLEDO, Ohio — Two elementary schools serving as polling places were evacuated Tuesday morning after bomb threats were reported — the first threats of Election Day 2026.
Toledo Police responded at about 10:30 AM Eastern to a reported threat at Beverly Elementary School, a polling location in Toledo; the school was evacuated. A second threat was called in shortly afterward at Monac Elementary School, also a polling location, and it was evacuated as well.
In nearby Wood County, Conneaut Elementary and Kenwood Elementary in Bowling Green received threatening phone calls Tuesday morning, and students and staff were evacuated as a precaution. The reporting reviewed by this desk does not state whether those two schools are polling locations.
Reporting is by WTOL via the Columbus Dispatch’s live Election Day updates. Police are investigating. As of publication, officials have not stated whether the threats were credible or hoaxes, who made them, or whether they are connected. No injuries have been reported.
For context: in the 2024 election, federal officials attributed a series of hoax bomb threats against polling places to Russian actors. No attribution has been made in today’s incidents, and none should be assumed.
What arrangements have been made for voters assigned to the evacuated Toledo locations had not been announced in the reporting reviewed at publication time. This desk is monitoring official channels for that guidance and for any statement on the threats’ credibility. Beverly Elementary School was swept and declared safe, and voting there resumed at about 12:15 PM Eastern.
We will keep you updated as events unfold.
